Josef Albers' "Interaction of Color" is a masterwork in twentieth-century art education. Conceived as a handbook and teaching aid for artists, instructors, and students, this timeless book presents Albers' unique ideas of colour experimentation in a way that is valuable to specialists as well as to a larger audience. Originally published by Yale University Press in 1963 as a limited silkscreen edition with 150 colour plates, "Interaction of Color" first appeared in paperback in 1971, featuring ten representative colour studies chosen by Albers. The paperback has remained in print ever since and remains one of the most influential resources on colour for countless readers. This new paperback edition presents a significantly expanded selection of more than thirty colour studies alongside Albers' original unabridged text, demonstrating such principles as colour relativity, intensity, and temperature; vibrating and vanishing boundaries; and the illusion of transparency and reversed grounds.

L'auteur - Josef Albers

Peintre, dessinateur, créateur industriel, théoricien et photographe allemand, Joseph Albers (1888-1976), considéré souvent pour son culte des compositions orthogonales comme un précurseur de l'Op'art, a mené une double carrière d'artiste et d'enseignant, d'abord au Bauhaus, avec Gropius, Adolphe Meyer et Monholy-Naagy, jusqu' à la fermeture de l'école par les nazis en 1933, puis au célébre Black Moutain College aux Etats-Unis jusqu'en 1949, avant d'assurer la direction de la section de création industrielle à l'université de Yale à New Haven.
