Photovoltaic (PV) energy conversion can become one of the key technologies for the 21st century since it has the potential to be a major player in energy technology. In order to evaluate photovoltaic energy conversion as a whole and in particular its impact on industrial development, the following aspects are considered: Technological status and potential of photovoltaic energy conversion, production cost, environmental aspects and energy payback time, connecting fluctuating PV-current for the electrical grid, potential of energy supply and market introduction. These topics are discussed by a group of 40 selected PV-experts. After detailed preparatory work, this group met for 2 days near Ulm in order to come up with a consensus statement on each topic. This book should enable technically trained decision makers in politics, industrial management, finance and business, administration as well as in science and technology to form their own opinion on photovoltaic energy conversion based on a solid scientific evaluation.
