Résumé
Dr. Sylvia Mader, a well-known author in the field of biology, has written numerous biology textbooks for McGraw-Hill.
Biology is now a tightly knit text that covers the concepts and principles of biology from the structure and function of the cell to the organization of the biosphere. It draws upon the entire world of living things to bring out an evolutionary theme that is introduced from the start. The concept of evolution is necessary to understanding the unity and diversity of life and serves as a background for the study of ecological principles. Modern ecological problems, including the biodiversity crisis, are stressed throughout the text.
- Color-coded and enhanced art program.
- This feature isn't new, but rather is part of an ongoing effort to create art that is easier for the student to understand. This includes most art in the cell chapters and animal structure and function chapters. A good example is chapter 8 where color-coded art is being combined with new icons for the Krebs Cycle, Glycolysis, and Electron Transport System. The color coding helps the student to instantly identify what stage of respiration is being discussed, and the icon helps them to identify in what order the stages occur. Likewise, the animal and plant cell is color-coded so that each organelle within a cell is identified with a particular color. As each organelle is being discussed, it is accompanied by an illustration that includes the animal (or plant) cell icon. The appropriate organelle is highlighted in the icon and then blown-up into a larger diagram that shows the processes and structures within that organelle. This will help students instantly identify a structure, and helps them to keep the discussion in perspective.
- Online Learning Center: Once again we have put a great amount of time and resources into improving and updating the OLC to acompany this text. The student center will serve as a comprehensive online studying tool, coordinated with end of chapter material in the text, to maximize student effectiveness in learning difficult material. The e-Learning sessions provide a quick way for students to review the main points of each chapter. E-Learning sessions contain links to art activities, animations, and explorations. The password protected instructor center will contain the Instructor's Manual and Lab Resource Guide.
- Customize this book through Primis Online! This title is tentatively planned to be part of the Primis Online Database: www.mhhe.com/primis/online
- We make it easy for you to use the latest classroom technology. The supplement package for the 8th edition is unmatched in this market. We provide you with 900 transparencies, all art and photographs on our Instructor's Presentation CD-ROM, more than 600 life science animations for classroom presentation, 150 pieces of Active Art that you can manipulate to suit your classroom setting, PowerPoint lecture outlines, and micrograph slides.
- Chapter-by-chapter color customization is available for the text and lab manual. Professors have the option to select only the chapters they cover in lecture or lab allowing students savings in book costs.
