Blessures intimes, blessures sociales
Fred Poché - Collection La nuit surveillée
Résumé
--
What exactly are we seeking when we complain? In what way can our complaint be transformed when it is shared, received, accepted? Where does the borderline lie between forgetfulness and self-preservation? How should we situate self-preservation in relation to others, to the world? What effect can words have? Can they free from oppression? A helpless, poignant complaint rises from our disrupted society. Today we are witnessing a 'psychologization' of social issues which ignores the essential analysis of what produces so much suffering in the most fragile members of society. However, our desire to show solidarity with those who are imprisoned in a kind of fatality by their private and social injuries incites constant reflection about the normativity which governs our vision and our acts. In consequence, we must view the possible solutions to the suffering, so that individuals may become actors of their own existence and feel concerned by the common good. Such an approach requires an ethic of self-preservation, an understanding of stressful contexts, a reflection on the type of exchange we might promote and an authentic 'aesthetic of solidarity': a set of conceptual tools to help us see, in spite of all kinds of social suffering and misery, those things that may turn out to be an experience of liberation, an existential beauty of the heart at the core of social realities. Illustrated by simple and eloquent examples from daily life or literature, Fred Poché's book adopts a constructive approach to complex and sensitive issues at the crossroads of philosophy, ethics and politics issues our increasingly inegalitarian society must face. Professor of philosophy at the Catholic University of the West (Angers), Fred Poché is the author of the successful Une politique de la fragilité (coll. 'La nuit surveillée' 2004) which this book develops from the ethical viewpoint.
