Images are everywhere, in us and all around us. Our memory associates them, often without our knowing, with images previously assimilated. Remodelled and transformed, in the end, it is they which model us. When confronted with the powers of the image, which nourish the imagination, we risk visual anaesthetizing, a loss of vision which threatens our freedom, beginning with that of children. In this book, Michel Quenot does not simply reflect on the image or images. He meditates on the future of man. For man, in fact, is transformed in the image of the world he creates. As for the cult image, a place of confrontation, it expresses the spiritual state of believers throughout the ages. Quarrels around Christian images, their corruption and their accomplishments, concern the life of the world and everyone in it. For Christians, the incarnation of the God-man - the visible side of an invisible God already revealed in the Old Testament - fertilizes visibility and gives it meaning. The stakes of a struggle in the heart of man, the true image will, one day, dissolve, leaving way for a Face-to-Face encounter.
