Élisabeth Leseur's 'Journal et pensées de chaque jour' met with enormous success when it was published in 1917 by her husband Félix. As a result of studying his wife's writings, he became a believer, and in 1919 he joined the Order of Preachers. Fifteen years later, Félix - now Brother Marie-Albert Leseur - published the 'Journal d'enfant' that Elisabeth kept between the ages of eleven and fifteen, consisting of two school notebooks. The first one opens with Élisabeth looking forward greatly to her First Holy Communion, which she made on the 15 May, 1879. The second contains her account of this event which held such importance for the young girl, preceded by the required three-day retreat. It is a delight to encounter in this journal the very profound desire for holiness that inhabited the young Élisabeth Leseur, which was to ripen and mature firmly and virtuously throughout her long existence. In these pages, we can also discern the courage with which she later combatted evil and mediocrity, as well as that keen understanding of reality which was so deeply ingrained in the human and spiritual personality of this great woman.
