Les actes des apotres

Le livre des Actes des Apôtres est lu avec nostalgie par tous les réformateurs comme l'histoire édifiante de l'Église primitive, et surtout le journal exaltant des voyages de Paul, le plus grand missionnaire. Mais son but est peut-être initialement autre ! Entre le témoignage du sang et celui de la mission, les Actes montrent la difficulté de l'Évangile. Autant qu'une histoire des origines, le livre tisse une prophétie destinée à réformer les communautés déjà déviées. Ces dernières, négligeant la Passion, célébraient la liberté qu'avait ouverte la Résurrection elles tendaient à faire des Nations un nouveau peuple élu en rejetant l'héritage d'Israël, avec un penchant pour les signes et le culte des personnalités, dont celle de Paul, précisément. Les Actes des Apôtres pourraient bien être moins une histoire qu'un montage à base d'histoire pour démystifier l'image de Paul - non pas Paul, mais ce qu'on en faisait, c'est-à-dire le champion d'une volonté de puissance. L'auteur rappelle que la première moitié des Actes insiste lourdement sur la Passion et, avec Étienne, sur le martyre comme mission de l'Église, sur le centre inaliénable de Jérusalem, c'est-à-dire Israël, sur le rôle de Pierre, premier messager de l'Évangile aux Nations, avec le Romain Cornélius. La seconde partie des Actes raconte les voyages de Paul, mais de telle sorte que l'inflation, l'inutilité et l'erreur y sont mêlées. Le fameux appel à César était quasi blasphématoire et inutile, Paul pouvant prendre le bateau de n'importe où et n'importe quand. Et pourquoi Rome, alors que la Pentecôte prévoyait aussi la Perse ? Tout à la fin du livre, Paul, enfin vrai, immobile, enchaîné à Rome, parle enfin du royaume de Dieu et délivre le message du Serviteur, annoncé par le Baptiste et Jésus.

The Acts of the Apostles is read with a feeling of nostalgia by all reformers, who see it as the edifying story of the primitive Church, especially the journal exalting the travels of the greatest missionary, Paul. But the initial aim was perhaps otherwise! Between the witness of blood and that of the mission, the Acts reveal the complexity of the Gospel. Also a history of origins, the book wove a prophecy designed to reform communities that had already gone off course. The latter, neglecting Christ's Passion, celebrated the freedom opened up by the Resurrection they tended to make the Nations a new chosen people by rejecting Israel's heritage and showed a marked liking for signs and the cult of personalities, including that of Paul. The Acts of the Apostles could indeed be less a historical narrative than a construction based on history to demystify the image of Paul - not Paul himself, but what he was being turned into, i.e. the champion of a will for power. The author reminds us that the first half of the Acts insists heavily on certain points: the Passion and, with Stephen, on martyrdom as the mission of the Church on the inalienable centre of Jerusalem, that is to say Israel on the role of Peter, first messenger taking the Gospel to the Nations with the Roman Cornelius. The second part of the Acts recounts Paul's voyages, but in such a way that addition, futility and error combine. The famous call to Caesar was almost blasphemous and pointless, since Paul could take the boat from any port and at any time. And why Rome, when the Pentecost also permitted Persia? At the very end of the book, Paul, at last his true self, is immobile, chained in Rome. At last, he speaks of the kingdom of God and delivers the message of the Servant, announced by the Baptist and Jesus.
