Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950), better known by his pen-name, George Orwell , was born in India, where his father worked for the Civil Service. An author and journalist, Orwell was one of the most prominent and influential figures in twentieth-century literature. His unique political allegory Animal Farm was published in 1945, and it was this novel, together with the dystopia of Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), which brought him world-wide fame. His novels and non-fiction include Burmese Days, Down and Out in Paris and London, The Road to Wigan Pier and Homage to Catalonia .

L'auteur - George Orwell

Eric Arthur Blair, alias George Orwell, est né au Bengale en 1903. Après des études à Eton, il s'engage dans la police impériale en Birmanie, où il restera de 1922 à 1927. Après un passage à Paris, il rentre à Londres où il vit comme précepteur puis professeur en 1932, avant de devenir libraire et critique. Il publie plusieurs romans et reportages dans les années trente, remarquables par leur engagement social et politique, dont Hommage à la Catalogne en 1938 sur la guerre d'Espagne. Il devient mondialement connu après la guerre grâce à deux livres, La Ferme des animaux et 1984, publié peu avant son décès en 1950.
